Dr. İlhan Sami Özulu is both a seasoned professional and a lifelong cultural ambassador. His music career began in 1966 at the İstanbul Municipal Conservatory of Music, where he studied viola. By 1970, he had formed Evrim Folk Dörtlüsü with his brother İhsan, releasing their first single in 1971. As the group later became Evrim 5, they collaborated with iconic Turkish artists such as Esmeray and İlhan İrem. His talent was recognized with the TRT Best Composer Music Award in 1979.

Alongside performance, Dr. Özulu served in the State Classical Turkish Music Choir of the Ministry of Culture, toured Europe with the Turkic World Research Foundation Music Ensemble, and conducted orchestras professionally.

His academic background is equally impressive:

• MA & Ph.D. in Radio/TV Broadcasting – İstanbul University

• MS in E-Commerce – George Mason University

Professionally, he worked at the Voice of America in Washington, D.C., before expanding into Information Technology. Meet the Founder

At the heart of Evrim Ağacı is Çağrı Mert Bakırcı, Ph.D. A passionate science communicator, author, and scientist, Çağrı founded Evrim Ağacı in 2010 while studying at Middle East Technical University (METU). He later earned his Ph.D. in Evolutionary Robotics and Artificial Intelligence from Texas Tech University.

Çağrı started Evrim Ağacı to fill a critical void: the lack of reliable, accessible, and comprehensive scientific resources for the Turkish public. He saw a deep-seated need to normalize the understanding of evolution and to champion the scientific method as the most reliable path to knowledge. What began as a student initiative has grown under his leadership into a professional organization with a global reach, dedicated to empowering minds through education.
